This funding is primarily designed to provide two semesters of teaching relief, allowing students to focus entirely on their digital projects and dissertation research. • Financial Support: The $20,000 award is split. Approximately $15,000 must be used to buy out two semesters of teaching duties. The remaining amount is distributed as a single cash payment.
• Mentorship: You get consultation on DH software development and analysis.
• Community: Fellows participate in intellectual programming and present at one formal colloquium at the Library.

Eligibility Criteria

This fellowship is designed for students nearing the end of their PhD journey. To qualify, you must meet the following requirements:

• Academic Status: You must be ABD (All But Dissertation). This means you have completed all course requirements and have been admitted to candidacy.
• Field of Study: Open to students in the humanities, social sciences, or the arts at UVA.
• Enrollment: You must be enrolled full-time for the application year.
• Experience: While prior experience as a Praxis Fellow is not required, you are expected to have some digital humanities background (e.g., coding, collaborative projects, or critical engagement with digital tools).

Application Package Requirements

A complete application must include the following materials:

1. Cover Letter (2 Pages): Address the selection committee. Include your plan for using digital technologies, your previous experience, which Scholars’ Lab staff expertise you need, and a description of your proposed project.
2. Dissertation Abstract: No more than one page.
3. Digital Review: A short review (max 2 pages) of relevant digital projects or scholarship your work will be in dialogue with.
4. Support Notes: Brief notes (emails/screenshots accepted) from your Dissertation Director and Department Chair confirming their support and awareness of your teaching relief plan.
